SEPTEMBER IN MINNESOTA means the end of the State Fair and the start of school, Labor Day and last trips to the beach, and new art supplies for both teachers and students. Among some of the best art teaching and learning tools can be found right on this Web site. Art teachers and parent volunteers are invited to click on Education & Resources for some great classroom ideas. Students can discover fascinating aspects of both art history and art making by clicking on Collections/Collection-Related Online Resources. Here you’ll find nearly two dozen online programs and videos on everything from Printmaking Processes to Restoring a Masterwork. Students and teachers alike can use the versatile ArtsConnecEd Web site to “collect” works of art from the permanent collections of both the MIA and Walker Art Center.
This September also brings a beloved tradition back to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts: The Design & Antiques Fair. Previously known as the Antiques Show & Sale, this wonderful browser’s paradise took a break last year, and returns September 24 through 26 with expanded inventory and new programming. Now located in the St. Paul Armory, the 26th Design & Antiques Fair will feature the valuables from forty dealers across the country. Click on the link above for details.
Finally, September brings a wealth of lectures and programs to the MIA, and you won’t want to miss them. By clicking on Calendar & Events, you will find day-by-day listings. Among these are a Friends free lecture on September 9 by Victoria Wyeth about her famous family of artists, and a September 19 talk by Martha Tedeschi about the watercolors of Winslow Homer and John Marin. Be sure to read through our September offerings and mark your calendars. We’ll see you here.
Happy September,
Kaywin Feldman
