TARGET FAMILY DAY Dreamscapes Sunday, September 12, 201011 a.m. – 5 p.m. museum-wide Come daydream at the MIA. Dreams are a window to the imagination. And imagination is a key ingredient in creating art. Be inspired by paintings by Maxfield Parrish and Yves Tanguy, then create your own dreamscape. Hear silly and sweet bedtime stories told by Katie Knutson of Rippling Stories. Listen to dreamy harp music by Andrea Stern. Go on a hunt in the museum?s galleries to see how dreams, sleep, and imagination unlock artists? ideas. And stop by a dream interpretation booth and find out what your dreams mean--or interpret the dreams of others. Free. TARGET FAMILY DAY Samurais and Warriors Sunday, October 10, 201011 a.m. – 5 p.m. museum-wide A great warrior is honorable, courageous, and loyal. See how beautifully crafted armor reflects these fine characteristics while protecting soldiers in battle. Drop by an art studio and sculpt your own protective animal symbol. Take part in martial arts workshops and learn skills of balance and observation. Watch demonstrations of Japanese martial arts and European fencing techniques. Tour the galleries in search of armor, swords, and images of warriors from a variety of cultures. And, don't miss the MIA?s fantastic Samurai armor! Free. TARGET FAMILY DAY Peace & Harmony Sunday, November 14, 201011 a.m. – 5 p.m. museum-wide Join us as we explore themes of peace in art. Create a Tibetan prayer flag in a printmaking studio. Strike a peaceful pose in a family-friendly yoga class. Learn artist tricks to creating balanced, harmonious compositions. Plus, enjoy a special gallery experience where you'll talk with characters from the MIA's painting Peace Concluded, by Sir John Everett Millais. Free. |
